Posture, people!

Do you sit at a desk all day? Do you look at your computer on your bed? Do you find it tiring to sit up straight?

The people I see at Pilates and at the Spinal Clinic often mention that sitting up straight is tiring. I always show people that the sitting-up posture shouldn’t be tiring if their centre of gravity and alignment is from the pelvis.

People think sitting up properly is lifting up from your upper body. Rather it comes from the two sitting bones.

Try this...

Sit on your chair, roll to the tailbone then roll to the front of your pelvis and stick your bottom out.

Like the picture below keep rolling back and forth from the slouching position to the sticking bottom out position. Once you have done this, find the centre point and there you are.

Your posture is now from your pelvis and not from your upper back, so you won't put strain on your back and you shouldn’t get tired from sitting like this. It does take a little getting used to but once you feel the difference it will come naturally. Also you will limit back stiffness and neck issues.
