Tumeric tea with a twist

Living amongst Melbourne's amazing food culture there are some nights when I have been eating and drinking out late the night before, this means I need to start the morning with a little love for my digestive system and most likely the liver.  For me, this means increasing my alkaline foods and reducing my acidic foods for the next 12 hours. This sounds boring but just by adding a little more anti- inflammatory food to my daily routine helps to nourish my digestive system and liver which reduces the inflammation in turn, giving me more vitality, less fluid retention, puffy eyes, lethargy and overall helps my general well being.

This tea in the morning helps to reduce the acidity in the stomach that increases overnight and balances it to a more alkaline Ph overall giving your body the best kick-start the day.

INGREDIENTS

1/4 teaspoon tumeric

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon grated ginger

1/4 teaspoon manuka honey

Dash of apple cider vinegar

Squeeze lemon

Hot water

METHOD

Place all ingredients in a teapot or a mug. Stir set aside to cool slighty and infuse,  then drink and nourish slowly.

Who Am I?

Here I am doing something I never imagined I'd be doing; writing. Not my strongest suit. And furthermore, I'm planning on writing on a regular basis. Argh!

Who am I?
My name is Phoebe. Hi

I grew up on a small farm just outside of Geelong, Victoria. My parents, never afraid of a bit of hard work, created an idyllic and adventurous place to raise my brothers and I. Constantly surrounded by my family, friends, love and laughter, this little farm in the Barrabool Hills is my haven. It is a magical and peaceful place and it was there that I started my holistic healing journey.

I always knew I wanted to work in a job that helped people. I went to a small country primary school and two of my friends had cerebral palsy. Whether it was carrying their books, assisting with their writing or getting them back walking after surgery, I loved being able to help them. I feel this is something in my nature and it helps drive my passion in my job and also my life.

What do I do?
I am a Melbourne-based therapist who likes to look at the body from a holistic perspective. Over the years I have expanded my skill set so that I can offer truly individual solutions to health and body problems. We are all different, so the idea that one size fits all when it comes to our health is crazy.

Through my combined skills - Pilates, Myotherapy, Dry Needling, Laser for pain, Yoga - I like working with clients to offer them the best musculoskeletal and health care.

I love discovering. I love unlocking the body's potential. I love seeing results.

So that's me. I look forward to sharing this blogging journey with you.

My blog
Through this blog I plan to share my knowledge and experience with you. Stretches, exercises, recipes and more... I hope I can inspire you to unlock your body's potential. So stay tuned!

Posture, people!

Do you sit at a desk all day? Do you look at your computer on your bed? Do you find it tiring to sit up straight?

The people I see at Pilates and at the Spinal Clinic often mention that sitting up straight is tiring. I always show people that the sitting-up posture shouldn’t be tiring if their centre of gravity and alignment is from the pelvis.

People think sitting up properly is lifting up from your upper body. Rather it comes from the two sitting bones.

Try this...

Sit on your chair, roll to the tailbone then roll to the front of your pelvis and stick your bottom out.

Like the picture below keep rolling back and forth from the slouching position to the sticking bottom out position. Once you have done this, find the centre point and there you are.

Your posture is now from your pelvis and not from your upper back, so you won't put strain on your back and you shouldn’t get tired from sitting like this. It does take a little getting used to but once you feel the difference it will come naturally. Also you will limit back stiffness and neck issues.

Berry-licious chia jam

I love jam but all the nasties in it never agree with me. So when I stumbled upon this recipe, I got excited. Full-proof, super tasty and ridiculously easy. And for those with little ones it is a must try recipe. Actually, this is so delicious it is a must try for everyone.

INGREDIENTS

2 cups of your fave berries (fresh or frozen)
2 tbsp maple syrup
1 tsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
2 tbsp chia seeds

METHOD

Cook the berries and maple syrup in a saucepan for around 7 minutes. Mash them a little with a fork.

Remove from heat and mix in vanilla and chia seeds. Put it in a container and pop it in the fridge. Let the chia seeds work their magic for about 30mins. After 30mins or so enjoy your delicious, nastie-free berry jam.
